James Barker
I live in Jersey City, NJ, with my wife and two cats. I am the proud Founder and CEO of Edits Etc., a post-production collective built on collaboration and artistic integrity.

For the past 10 years, I have worked as a film editor, shaping stories across documentaries, narrative films, and branded content. My experience in post-production has deeply influenced my approach to directing. I understand the rhythm of a scene, the power of visual storytelling, and how every frame contributes to the larger emotional journey. Now, I am shifting my focus toward directing, bringing my keen editorial eye and love for grounded, character-driven narratives to the forefront.

As a queer artist, filmmaking is a deeply personal way for me to explore identity, emotion, and human connection. Inspired by filmmakers like Derek Cianfrance, Claire Denis, and Terrence Malick, I am drawn to raw, immersive storytelling where emotion is felt as much as it is seen. Whether through intimate dramas, poetic visuals, or high-energy sequences, my work captures the complexities of relationships, resilience, and self-discovery.

Through Edits Etc., I want to foster a creative space where post-production artists can collaborate without the rigid structures of a traditional post house. As I continue to grow both my business and directorial career, I am dedicated to crafting films that are as emotionally gripping as they are visually striking.
